As per Section 9 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, 'A promissory note or bill of exchange drawn or made in India and payable in India is called an inland instrument. Any such instrument not so drawn, made or payable is called a foreign instrument.' The section further explains that 'The provisions of this Act as to inland instruments shall apply to any foreign instrument which is enforceable in any Court in India, according to the law in force in India for the time being.'
