Section 65 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, provides that 'where a cheque is crossed specially, the banker to whom it is crossed may again cross it specially to another banker, and so on, and the last banker to whom it is so crossed may cross it specially to the original payee or his agent for collection'. This means that a cheque that has been crossed specially can be further crossed to another banker, and the last banker to whom it is crossed can cross it back to the original payee or his agent for collection. The effect of such crossing is that the cheque can only be paid to the banker specified in the crossing, and the banker is required to collect the proceeds of the cheque for the account of the payee or the holder of the cheque.
