Section 119 of the Indian Contract Act, 1872, discusses the effect of the release of one joint promisor. It states: 'When two or more persons have made a joint promise, and one of them has been released therefrom, all are released.' This section provides that if one of the joint promisors is released from the promise, all the joint promisors are considered released. However, if the release is given without the consent of the other joint promisors, it may not discharge them from their liability. The courts have interpreted this section to mean that a release given to one joint promisor affects all joint promisors.
