Section 61 of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996 deals with the appointment of arbitrators. The section states that the parties to the arbitration agreement may agree on the appointment of a sole arbitrator or a panel of arbitrators. If the parties fail to agree, the appointment of the arbitrator shall be made in accordance with the provisions of this Act. The section also provides that the arbitrator shall be impartial and independent and shall not be a party to the dispute. The arbitrator shall be appointed within 30 days from the date of receipt of the request for appointment. The section further provides that the arbitrator shall not be removed from office except in accordance with the provisions of this Act.
