According to Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, 'the drawee of a bill of exchange who accepts it, is liable to the holder of the bill, provided that the holder has given value for the bill, and the drawee has not been discharged from liability. The drawee is liable to pay the bill according to the tenor of his acceptance. If the drawee has accepted the bill generally, he is liable to pay the bill in full. If the drawee has accepted the bill conditionally, he is liable to pay the bill only if the condition is fulfilled. The drawee may be discharged from liability if the holder of the bill has failed to give notice of dishonor to the drawee, or if the holder has failed to sue the drawee within a reasonable time.
