Section 48 of the Indian Contract Act, 1872, deals with the effect of a promise to do something that the promisor is already bound to do. The section states that a promise to do a thing which the promisor is already bound to do, either by law or by a previous contract, is void, unless the promisee has given something in exchange for the promise.
