Statutory Content of Section 46

Section 46 of the Indian Contract Act, 1872, deals with the effect of a promise to do something that has not been done. The section states that where a contract is made to do a thing which has already been done, the contract is void. However, if the contract was made to compensate the promisee for something that has already been done, the contract is valid.
