What does Section 44 of Contract Act say?

Section 44 of the Indian Contract Act, 1872, deals with promises made in the alternative. The section states that in a contract where a promisor binds himself to do one of two alternative things at his own option, and the first alternative becomes impossible, the promisor is bound to perform the second alternative, if it is still possible. However, if the second alternative also becomes impossible, the contract becomes void.
