What does Section 25 of Contract Act say?

Section 25 of the Indian Contract Act, 1872, provides that every agreement in restraint of the marriage of any person, other than a minor, is void. According to this section, 'Every agreement in restraint of the marriage of any person, other than a minor, is void.' The section aims to prevent agreements that restrict an individual's freedom to marry. However, an agreement in restraint of marriage of a minor is not void under this section. The court in the case of Mt. Bhartri v. Ram Swarup observed that an agreement that absolutely restrains a person from marrying is void, but an agreement that restricts a person from marrying a particular person is not necessarily void.
