What does Section 24 of Contract Act say?

This section states that if any part of a single consideration for one or more objects, or if the consideration for one object is in part lawful and in part unlawful, the agreement is void, unless the lawful consideration can be separated from the unlawful. According to Section 24 of the Indian Contract Act, 1872, 'If any part of a single consideration for one or more objects, or if the consideration for one object is in part lawful and in part unlawful, the agreement is void, unless the lawful consideration can be separated from the unlawful.' The section emphasizes that the court will not enforce a contract that has an unlawful object or consideration, even if the contract has a lawful object or consideration as well. However, if the lawful and unlawful considerations are separable, the court may enforce the contract in respect of the lawful consideration. In the case of J. K. (Bombay) P. Ltd. v. The New India Assurance Co. Ltd., the court held that where a contract has both lawful and unlawful objects, it is void in its entirety if the objects are inseparable.
