Statutory Content of Section 27

Section 27 of the Sale of Goods Act, 1930, states: 'Goods are said to be of merchantable quality within the meaning of this Act, if they are in the same condition as they ought to be, having regard to the nature and description of the goods, and if they are fit for the purposes for which goods of that description are ordinarily used'. This definition of merchantable quality is crucial for understanding the standard of quality that goods must meet to be considered fit for sale. It takes into account the nature and description of the goods and their fitness for ordinary use.
