When a cheque is drawn in a currency other than that of the Republic of India, the drawee bank may, in good faith, pay the cheque in the currency of the Republic of India at the rate of exchange prevailing on the date of the cheque, and the drawer shall be liable to compensate the drawee bank for any loss or loss of interest sustained by the drawee bank on account of such payment.
