The phrases 'local law' and 'law in force' in India, when used with reference to a particular territory, denote the law for the time being in force in that territory, as the same may be held to include any law which has been made hereby, or by any British or Indian Legislature, or by any authority in British India, for the time being, or by any other authority, in any part of British India, and includes any law which has been so made in the territory aforesaid, before the commencement of this Code.
