If, at any time, the Central Government is of the opinion that it is necessary or expedient so to do in the public interest, it may, by order, supersede the Regional Director for such period, not exceeding six months, as may be specified in the order, and direct that during all or any of the periods of supersession, the powers and functions of the Regional Director shall, to such extent as may be specified in the order, be exercised by such person or persons as the Central Government may specify in this behalf.
