Statutory Content of Section 177

The Central Government may, by order, call upon a company to furnish any information relating to the company or its management, as it may deem necessary. The company shall, within the time specified in the order, furnish the information required. If the company fails to furnish the information, the Central Government may, by order, direct the company to furnish the information within a specified time. If the company still fails to furnish the information, the Central Government may, by order, remove the defaulting director or directors and appoint a new director or directors in their place. The Central Government may also, by order, direct the company to hold an extraordinary general meeting to consider and pass a resolution for the removal of the defaulting director or directors and the appointment of a new director or directors.
