Where the parties have agreed on a method of appointing one or more arbitrators, the parties shall use that method. Where the parties have not agreed on a method, the arbitral tribunal shall consist of three arbitrators, one to be appointed by each party and the third to be appointed by the two arbitrators so appointed. Where the third arbitrator is to be appointed by the two arbitrators, the two arbitrators shall appoint the third arbitrator within thirty days from the date of their appointment. Where the two arbitrators fail to agree on the third arbitrator within the said period, either party may, in writing, request the Chief Justice or any other person authorized by him to appoint the third arbitrator. The Chief Justice or the other person so authorized shall, within thirty days from the date of the request, appoint the third arbitrator. Where the parties have agreed that the arbitral tribunal shall consist of a single arbitrator, the parties shall use the method agreed upon for the appointment of the arbitrator. Where the parties have not agreed on a method, the arbitral tribunal shall consist of a single arbitrator to be appointed by the Chief Justice or any other person authorized by him. The Chief Justice or the other person so authorized shall, within thirty days from the date of the request, appoint the arbitrator.
