5. Constitution of Corporation- (1) Subject to the provisions of sub-section (2), the Corporation shall consist of such number of councillors as may be fixed by the Government by notification in the Andhra Pradesh Gazette, from time to time; so however, that the total number of councillors of the Corporation shall not exceed fifty at any time. (2)In addition to the councillors referred in sub-section (1), (i) every member of the Legislative Assembly of the State and every member of the House of the People, elected from any constituency which forms part, wholly or partly, of the Corporation; (ii) every member of the Legislative Council of the State, whose name is entered in the electoral roll of the Corporation; Shall be an ex-officio councillor of the Corporation. (3) The Government may, by notification in the Andhra Pradesh Gazette, from time to time, reserve seats for (a) members of the Scheduled Castes; (b) members of the Scheduled Tribes; and (c) women; and determine the number of such seats: Provided that no seat shall be reserved for members of the Scheduled Castes or members of the Scheduled Tribes, if at the last census they constituted more than one-half of the total population of the city: Provided further that any reservation made under clauses(a) and (b) shall cease to have effect after the 25[th] January, 1990: Provided also that not less than two seats shall be reserved for women. (4) The total number of seats reserved under sub-section (3) shall not exceed one-half of the strength of the Corporation as notified under sub-section (1). (5) The number of seats reserved in the Corporation for members of the Scheduled Castes or members of the Scheduled Tribes, under sub-section(3), shall bear to the strength of the Corporation as aforesaid, a proportion not less than the population of the Scheduled Castes or of the Scheduled Tribes, as the case may be, in the city, bears to the total population of the city.
