If a document required to be registered under section 17 is presented for registration after the period of four months from the date of its execution, or after the period of four months from the date on which the power of presenting it first devolves on a transferee or a successor in interest, or on the legal representative of a deceased person, and the document is not a document of title to immovable property, the registrar shall not register the document, unless the document is presented for registration within a period of four months from the date on which the power of presenting it first devolves on a transferee or a successor in interest, or on the legal representative of a deceased person.
