Section 201

Section 201 of the Indian Succession Act, 1925, states that the distribution of the property of the intestate, who is a Muslim, shall be regulated by the Muslim law. This section applies to all Muslims, whether they are Sunnis or Shias. The Muslim law of succession is based on the principles of the Quran and the Hadith, and it provides for the distribution of the property of the deceased among his heirs according to their degree of relationship. The section reads: "Save as otherwise expressly provided in this Act, the distribution of the property of the intestate, whether a male or female, dying after the commencement of this Act, shall, if such intestate is a Muslim, be regulated by the Muslim law."
